摘要

For a finite (e.g., matrix) conflict, many Evolutionarily Stable Strategies (ESS's) may coexist. The set of supports of these ESS's is called a pattern. Some patterns are impossible. Questions regarding the attainable patterns are addressed, in particular the cases where there are precisely three and four ESS's. The problem of invasion is of biological importance. Certain calculations are made regarding the conjecture that greater variability in allele (or strategy) frequency exposes a population to a higher probability of invasion.
