摘要

Game-theoretic models are developed for formally studying enforcement as it relates to environmental laws and regulations. The key question addressed here is how variations in the severity of penalties affect violation levels and frequencies. The contributions of this study to environmental policy development include methods for measuring the effectiveness of enforcement, improving the efficiency of monitoring, and optimizing the design of regulations.
