Internet gaming disorder and problematic social media use in a representative sample of German adolescents: Prevalence estimates, comorbid depressive symptoms and related psychosocial aspects

作者:

Highlights:

• We compared Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and problematic social media use (PSMU).

• A representative sample of 1001 German adolescents (aged 12–17 years) was surveyed.

• The prevalence of IGD was 3.5%, of PSMU 2.6% and of a comorbid appearance 0.5%.

• Clinically relevant depressive symptoms occur not rarely in youth with PSMU or IGD.

• We did not find a clearly different pattern of correlates for IGD and PSMU.
