About this organization
Center for AI Safety (AI Safety Center) is a non-profit organization dedicated to researching and promoting artificial intelligence safety issues. Its goal is to ensure that artificial intelligence (especially strong artificial intelligence or general artificial intelligence) can develop in a safe, responsible and human-interested way in the future. The center’s research covers multiple aspects of AI security, including but not limited to:
Long-term security: Ensure that artificial intelligence systems will not threaten the survival or well-being of human society in the long-term future development. Specifically, this involves controlling and supervising the behavior of superintelligent systems so that they behave as expected and avoid potentially catastrophic consequences.
Technology ethics and policies: Promote the formulation of corresponding policies, norms and ethical frameworks to deal with the social, economic and moral impacts of the development of AI technology. It emphasizes that the development of artificial intelligence should always take into account potential risks to humans and the environment.
Security technology research: including how to design AI systems that can operate safely even in unknown environments, and how to prevent AI systems from being abused or misused. For example, the transparency and explainability of AI in the decision-making process, and how to prevent the system from performing actions that are inconsistent with human values.
Advocating cooperation and global coordination: AI safety is a global issue, so the Center for AI Safety is also committed to cooperating with experts, governments and other relevant organizations around the world to jointly develop strategies to deal with artificial intelligence risks.
The mission of the institution is not only to conduct academic research, but also to enhance the public, policymakers, and AI developers in the industry's awareness of AI safety issues, and to promote interdisciplinary cooperation to ensure the sustainable and safe development of AI technology.
