摘要

An understanding of the biological principles that govern the development of vegetation is a prerequisite to successful pattern recognition by aerial photography or remote sensing. Much knowledge concerning mathematical models for forest and tree distributions has accumulated through research in ecology, statistics and other fields. Proposed models have involved the fitting of polynomial surfaces and work on stochastic processes and autoregression. The possibility that periodicities exist in the distribution of trees and stands has been examined by periodogram and spectral analysis.
