• The flow of blood through a non-symmetrical stenosed artery using K–L model, with no-slip condition at the wall of the artery has been investigated.

• Gauss-Quadrature formula has been used to obtain the expression for the flow characteristics such as flow rate, wall shear stress and resistance to blood flow.

• The effects of various parameters on stenosis size, flow rate, wall shear stress and resistance to blood flow have been discussed.

• The effects of stenosis on the skin friction and on the resistance to blood flow are discussed.
