Object decomposition and subpart identification — classification algorithms

In some objects we can identify several components or subregions, whose decomposition yields geometrical information. In the analysis of such objects a large number of problems can occur. We need to get enough information to select automatically the subregions concerned. We also need to develop an efficient syntax to catalogue and unambiguously recognize the main characteristics of each part. We present a set of procedures which perform prefiltering, segmentation and syntactical analysis (on some geometrical information) of any frame with complex objects. Prefiltering and decomposition are described with details of the algorithms. Finally the results are aggregated to get a simple and efficient syntax to identify unambiguously each part and the relative spatial positions of the different parts.
