On the ranking of psychological journals

摘要

Attempts to rank journals common to a particular discipline usually take one of two forms. A citation network among the journals can be used to generate an “objective” measure while surveys of discipline members can be used to generate a “subjective” measure. While these rankings are often compared with each other, the comparison is a limited objective. If a richer set of variables tapping the evaluative bases for journals is obtained, it is possible to use them to account for the distribution of journal standing. This is done for a set of psychological journals and provides a basis for understanding the dynamics of journal evaluation and standing.
