摘要

It is clear that the level of library and information science (LIS) in China has fallen far behind many advanced countries. How can Chinese information scientists make a contribution to LIS in the face of this situation? In this paper, analysis of the current status of Chinese information activities and of the conditions required for expert systems research is used to show that China can now satisfy three fundamental conditions for such research in the field of LIS: A team of expert systems researchers; specialist or objectified knowledge of a specific subject domain; computer hardware and software. The key to getting started lies in arousing the masses to action.
