摘要

School psychologists have an ethical imperative to consider appropriate uses of computer technology within their assessment practices, given the potential for this technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Psychologists hold a parallel responsibility to consider the implications of using computer-related technology vis a vis professional practice concerns related to assessment. Many aspects of computers that render them most helpful—power, speed, flexibility, storage capacity, data manipulation capabilities—also render them most vulnerable to ethical violations and professional practice conundrums. Fundamental ethical and professional practice principles apply to the use of computer-related technology as to any professional work. Technological advancements that affect the assessment practices of school psychologists bring with them a concomitant need for scrutiny and ongoing vigilance.
