摘要

The interface between expert knowledge written in natural language and larger hospital information systems is a major challenge in the routine implementation of medical expert systems. Transpro (TRANSlation into PROlog) is an expert system which interfaces USDVA File Manager as the database management system, Prolog as the logic programming language, and Transoft as a natural-language-to-Prolog translator. A genealogy of 200 members of the Habsburg royal family from the tenth through twentieth centuries, entered as structured natural language, is translated into Prolog as a demonstration of the system. Transpro can translate a variety of short medical statements, and return them as Prolog clauses to the hospital information system. Transpro can enhance the physician's ability to review quality assurance monitors in a clinical information system.
