Testing knowledge-based systems: The state of the practice and suggestions for improvement

The field of knowledge-based systems has recently recognized the importance of verification, validation, and testing. This paper presents the results of a survey of the testing practices of knowledge-based systems developers. Common testing strategies are reported and analyzed. Factors affecting testing are discussed. A comprehensive approach to evaluation is described. General conclusions and lessons learned are presented.
