Communication network design and analysis expert systems based on higher level representations

This research investigates the problem of constructing communication networks using structural knowledge for the network. The knowledge is composed of five characteristics to represent the network model with a higher level semantic language. A system called UNIK-NET is developed to apply the idea to a modeling system for representing the network using higher level language. The system has key functions for the formulation reasoning process, transformation of the higher level into the base level language, and support of the solution for the users. A solution procedure is based on branch and bound algorithms. Computational results are reported along with a useful network model, the telepak problem. The system is applicable to modeling systems that are considering user-oriented representations for the communication network.
