摘要

A map recognition input system called MARIS is developed to digitize large-reduced-scale maps into a layered data form. This paper presents an experimental workstation, a vector-based recognition method, and an intelligent interaction function which are devised in order to enhance input speed. The recognition method is capable of extracting building lines, contour lines, and lines representing railways, roads and water areas. The recognition and the interaction utilize new efficient line tracing/tracking techniques. Experimental results show that the input time using MARIS can be reduced to about 25% of that of a system using a conventional interactive digitizer.
