摘要

Generalized threshold selection technique has been attempted on an aerial MSS thermal infrared imagery over the Cambay basin, India, to extract drainage patterns as well as shoreline contours dividing the land and the sea which are, as such, very subtle in the original imageries. To automatize the thresholding technique, a procedure has been developed by the authors which was first tested on another imagery which used edge detection technique, by template matching, for drainage pattern extraction. To test the validity of the technique, the same method has also been applied to a set of biomedical imageries successfully for extraction and continuous assessment of left ventricular shape of the human heart. Finally, a sharp delineation of both the drainage patterns and the shoreline contours could be made possible by optimum threshold selection as observed in the extracted imagery.
