An investigation into the skeletonization approach of hilditch

The skeletonization approach of Hilditch is compared with its so-called “simplified version” given by Stefanelli and Rosenfeld. Experimental results show the superiority of the original approach as described by Hilditch. A heuristic modification to Hilditch's approach is also proposed and empirically tested.
