On the spread of a fatal disease

Gleissner investigated a deterministic epidemic model for which the disease was inevitably fatal, and derived a threshold theorem. In this paper, an alternative derivation of the threshold theorem is given, and the corresponding stochastic model is investigated. An approximation for the distribution of the number of survivors is derived.
