An algorithm for the numerical computation of the Voigt function

An algorithm is developed for the numerical computation of the Voigt line-broadening function V(x,y). The function is expressed as an integral over [0,∞) of a meromorphic function that invloves a free parameter. A careful selection of this parameter enables V(x,y) to be computed efficiently through the use of a corrected trapezoidal rule that takes the simple poles of the integrand into account.
