A modified Galerkin approximation method for volterra equations with smooth kernels

A Galerkin approximation method previously described by the author is shownto be at least as accurate as and more efficient than several step-by-step methods. The error produced additionally appears to have the capability of reproducing the “ripple” property normally associated with ultraspherical polynomial approximations. Detailed comparative examples are given.
