Design optimization via finite elements: An elementary account

摘要

The paper develops an elementary account of the application of finite element analysis in the optimum design of structures. The penalty function method is employed to impose the constraints which arise naturally at the design stage. Two benchmark problems are used to verify the algorithms discussed. For clarity of presentation only a simple design variable is treated.
