摘要

We show how to give sparse matrix representations for a number of integral operators in one and two dimensions. Typically this results when using a Galerkin or a discrete Galerkin method. Related collocation methods using the same basis do not yield sparse representations. This suggests that the traditional preference of collocation over Galerkin methods be re-examined in light of exploiting sparseness in a number of known algorithms.
