Optimum beam design using finite elements

摘要

The optimum structural design of beams for several benchmark problems are considered. The penalty function method is employed to impose the inequality constraints and the Newton-Raphson algorithm has been used to solve the first-order necessary condition for optimality. The finite element procedure shows to be very effective in converging to the exact optimum solution.
