摘要

Finite difference models (FDMs) may provide oscillatory results when employed to simulate advective–dispersive transport. This paper presents an accurate FDM that is an extension of Leonard's method, referred to as LFDM, as it applies to advective–dispersive transport with reaction. The LFDM has been shown to be stable, convergent, and accurate for a wide range of Peclet numbers, Pe. The LFDM predictions are oscillation-free and accurate for Pe⩽20. The oscillations in the model predictions for Pe > 20 can be eliminated by introducing some artificial dispersion that is small and exactly quantifiable.
