An adjoint formulation for the non-linear potential flow equation

摘要

An adjoint formulation for the non-linear potential equation, which models compressible, irrotational and isentropic flows, will be presented. The variational formulation allows the computation of the sensitivity matrix for a fraction of the computational cost, when compared to classical methods. Some numerical examples in airfoil design in compressible flows are performed, and it will be shown that the computational cost of shape optimization remains independent of the number of design variables.
