An improved radiating boundary equation for free surface flows

In this study we test the efficiency of an improved radiating boundary equation for open channel flows. To aid in a faster convergence of the solution to steady-state profiles, the flow domain is truncated and a radiating boundary equation applied at the downstream end of the truncated domain. The focus is on mixed flows with shocks as in hydraulic jumps, which represent steady turbulent flows. The numerical results are compared with the reported experimental data. All the results indicate this approach is a reliable tool in predicting the stationary flow profile with no loss of flow information.
