A kinetic study of chemotherapy

In the present work an attempt is made to study the kinetics of chemotherapy by modeling, analysis, and simulations. The model is deterministic and consists of four compartments. The killing effect of the dose is assumed to be proportional to the blood level of the drug, which is supposed to be in the form of a sequence of trapezoids. Time lags which occur in the passage of cells from one compartment to another (due to the natural cell-cycle processings and/or damage done by drugs) are incorporated into the model. The model is described mathematically by a system of linear difference-differential equations with varying coefficients. The solution of this system under different conditions is outlined. Some of our simulations are presented to illustrate the performance of our model.
