• The multi-step reproducing kernel functions collocation techniques are proposed for second order IVPs.

• The combination of the multi-step reproducing kernel functions collocation techniques and the shooting method is used to solve 1-D elliptic type interface problems.

• The new approach has two significant advantages. The first one is that its computation cost is low compared with that of the existing method. The second one is that it is easy to implement and has higher accuracy.
