• This is the first time to investigate the synchronization of fractional-order coupled neural networks under event-triggered impulsive control.

• New synchronization conditions depending on fractional order are given by means of Lyapunov stability theory and Kronecker product.

• The event-triggered controller updates and impulsive control executes only at impulsive instants defined by triggering conditions, which guarantees the Zeno phenomenon will not occur.
