Direct manipulation of graph-based decision models

This paper builds on a long tradition in operations research and systems analysis: building models by drawing pictures. While pictorial representations are certainly useful as a communication medium, we focus on the learnability of modeling applications through graphical interfaces. Using the combined perspectives of direct perception (especially affordances) and direct manipulation, we focus on the dynamics of model building and model manipulation. The GX Shell is a DSS interface generator for direct manipulation of graph-based decision models, which are processed either by routines coded in Prolog or by external solvers.
