A flexible information manufacturing system for the generation of tailored information products

摘要
Poor data quality can severely hamper the effectiveness of organizations. During Desert Storm combat operations, it became evident that tactical decisions concerning strike and amphibious warfare rely upon timely and accurate information describing the location and condition of enemy targets. Even when there was an abundance of appropriate image data, it was shown to have limited value to the tactical user. There was no way to match available imagery and necessary processing routines to a given user's specific mission requirements. In this paper, we present a system designed to dynamically tailor information products to user needs. Using the flexible manufacturing system paradigm, we use data quality measures to optimally select available image data and dynamically configure process chains to produce an information product tailored to the user's constraints and preferences.
