A robust algorithm for contrast enhancement by local histogram modification

A new local histogram modification technique, called moving histogram equalization (MHE), is introduced and compared with other popular contrast enhancement techniques such as windowing and adaptive histogram equalization (AHE). MHE is shown to offer image quality which is superior to that of the widely accepted interpolated AHE, and no substantial increase in the amount of computation is expected.
