Confusional search on large files or databases

Confusional key search is a useful technique which has not received enough consideration in the literature, but applies in a number of application environments (bank, insurance, airlines, and so on) where inquiries on large files or databases are frequently performed. After the discussion of the Russel-Soundex code and of a new code valid for Italian language, the last section of this paper describes a complete confusional key procedure which is able to retrieve mispelled names.
