Role-limiting methods for automated knowledge acquisition: A problem-solving perspective

In this short paper we provide some complementary remarks on an excellent paper published earlier in this journal. The issues discussed here are concerned with similarities and differences between knowledge acquisition (KA) in expert systems on the one hand and requirement acquisition (RA) in other kinds of information systems (particularly decision support systems, or DSSs) on the other hand, We focus on role-limiting methods developed for automated knowledge acquisition, examining these methods and their integration from the problem solving perspective. We also suggest that a feasibility study on the potential of developing similar methods for the tasks of RA may benefit DSS and other kinds of information systems.
