Managers’ cognitive capabilities and perception of market research usefulness

Highlights:

• This study is the first to investigate relationships between managers’ cognitive capabilities (memory capacity, information processing), and their perception of the usefulness of market research.

• New measurement models are proposed to diagnose managers’ memory capacity and information processing, and perception of the market research usefulness.

• Structural equations modeling as the analytical strategy was employed to investigate relationships and obtain a richer picture of the researched problem.

• Results reveal that managers with limited cognitive capabilities such as lower-than-average memory capacity and poor information processing, develop wrong perceptions of the usefulness of market research.

• Managers, when faced with difficulties regarding information storage and retrieval, as well as information processing, react negatively towards market research.
