Galerkin methods for the time dependent incompressible elasticity equations

We consider semidiscrete and single step fully discrete approximations to the solutions of the time dependent incompressible elasticity equations. Two methods of dealing with the constraint are analysed: (a) a formulation involving a ‘discrete’ form of incompressibility condition and (b) a penalty formulation. H1- and L2-error estimates are obtained.
