Afterschool centers in four rural communities in Michigan

As part of KLICK, a statewide project supported by federal funds, afterschool centers were developed in four rural communities in Michigan. It was not long before local values and needs moved the centers in different directions. We describe the first year of operation of the four centers, focusing on the role of on-site coordinators and on the informal, activity-based instruction that the coordinators provided.
