摘要

A primary function of field-based psychologists is the evaluation and eventual classification of clients. This article describes a set of computer programs which allow clinicians to evaluate large data sets in order to discover the underlying group (classification) structure and subsequently use those results to classify new clients into the group in which they have the highest membership probabilities. The computerized methodology is demonstrated by utilizing a data set of public school children who were referred for psychological evaluations. Methods of validating and implementing the computerized classification system are discussed along with information concerning current software programs capable of accomplishing each step in the process.
