Convexity in scientific collaboration networks

Highlights:

• We analyzed datasets of Slovenian researchers’ collaborations in computer science, physics, sociology, and two other fields.

• We determined the convex skeletons in those collaboration networks by removing the so-called weak links from them.

• We generated frequency distributions of various data parameters of the skeletons and of the residual graphs.

• We found that convex skeletons were a good abstraction of the original co-authorship networks.
