Comparison of two article-level, field-independent citation metrics: Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) and Relative Citation Ratio (RCR)

作者:

Highlights:

• We reproduce the Relative Citation Ratio (RCR) using the Scopus database, to extend the metric beyond the biomedical subject area.

• We compare the RCR to another article-level, field-normalised metric, the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI).

• The FWCI and RCR of articles correlate strongly across numerous subject areas.

• Both metrics are comparably stable across different subject areas of research.

• We present results of correlations, distributions and application to research university benchmarking for both metrics.
