Within-journal self-citations and the Pinski-Narin influence weights

作者:

Highlights:

• Outlier values on the main diagonal of citation matrices make indicators unreliable.

• Influence Weights are independent of the outlier values on the main diagonal of a citation matrix.

• This independence is mathematically proven and empirically demonstrated.

• JIFs are sensitive to self-citation, since the numerator is affected, but not the denominator.

• Scopus SJR and the JCR Eigenfactor AIS use only cited values, but not citing values, and are therefore sensitive to self-citations.
